Corral Canyon Park & Sara Wan Trailhead |

Corral Canyon Park is located in Malibu CA off Pacific Coast Highway between Malibu Canyon Road and Kanan Dume Road. The 2.5 mile trail begins at Sara Wan Trailhead, dedicated to California Coastal Commission Sara Wan in October of 2009. The first creek crossing is only a few feet from the parking lot and follows the creek under Pacific Coast Highway to Dan Blocker State Beach (flooded at times). Just before the undercrossing is a small salt marsh. The trail loops into the hills, follows along Corral Creek and includes ocean views. The land was once owned by entertainer Bob Hope, who wanted to develop the canyon into a golf course. It does have some invasive weed problems since the 2007 fires--this is often a result of fires too often. Although news reports say a burn is "good for nature", in reality fires are only supposed to occur in nature about every 50 to 100 years--Malibu has burned considerably more often than this! It does not appear Corral Canyon had much habitat restoration help after the fires, compare to the next canyon over the ridge (Solstice Canyon) which restoration has occured since the fires. However, you can still find spring wildflowers at Corral Canyon, a unique feature of a MTA bus stop near the trailhead and a beach access trail where Corral Creek spills into the ocean.
